summer synchronicities.

There are so many things that are normal here in the US that are confusing to people in other places if the world. One of those things is year round produce. The expectation that when we go to the grocery store at any point in time, that we should be able to find most fruits and vegetables is not normal for a lot of the world. After traveling and discovering what fruit is supposed to taste like, I try my best to choose seasonal produce in some kind of effort to recreate that. A signal the summer is swiftly starting has alway been cherries. Grandmother would get them and it was always such an exciting treat and I don’t think until I got these at the beginning of June did I recognize the significance of this particular seasonal fruit for me.
For a long time summer has been a time of immense growth and swift transition. In the summer I work HARD, I experience the Glory of God in nature, in people and in the quiet. I seem to always find myself in a space where I am confronted with myself, the reality of God’s power and Jesus’ sacrifice and it’s inescapable. My will for disobedience is often worn down.
This year, as I moved into this season, I remembered these facts. I anticipated this time and am better for it. Our lives often move through cycles and our forgetfulness leaves us confused when we return to familiar boughts. While “seasons”, are not always seasonal in the traditional since, there are often signs that reveal that change is happening or approaching. When we don’t pay attention to our patterns and the nudges of the Holy Spirit we can miss the shift into newness. What are the things that indicate times of transition? Are we paying attention? We have “faith” for change and yet aren’t ALWAYS looking for the signals that it’s happening. No wonder Jesus always had a lil side-eye for them disciples.
